Every autumn, on the first cold night after the last apples are picked, a little crew of kitties wanders out from between the orchard rows. Nobody knows exactly where they come from. They just appear in the fallen leaves, six of them, warm and sleepy, waiting for someone to carry them home.

Cider is always chasing something just out of sight. A leaf spinning on the wind. A squirrel's tail flicking around a tree trunk. A sound two rows over that might be nothing, or might be the most interesting thing in the whole orchard. He knows every hidden corner, every hollow log, and every patch of foxglove, because he's been in all of them, usually more than once.

There's one squirrel he's been chasing since the very first night. He's never caught it, and secretly, he hopes he never will, because then what would he chase? The squirrel and the foxglove on his belly are a reminder that the best part is the adventure, not the ending.

Cider is for the curious, the wanderers, and anyone who can't sit still for long.
